The problem with the Lane Camaros is mostly the door hinges. Doglegs were state of the art back when those were mastered.
I review models in a column in Muscle Car Review magazine, have seen many variations oif 18th Camaro over the years.
The highway 61 '69 Camaros are iffy w/regard to engine detail, the diemakers didn't offset the cylinder heads, etc. and the foil on the roof moldings of the RS 396 I had was pretty poor. I was also disappointed with their '64 Riviera, too many different and varied surfaces that didn't mix well.
GMP is hard to beat, my favorite aside from the T/A Camaro series is their '70 Plymouths. They have only occasional and mild problems like the placement of the dashboards (too low) and the front wheel (not centered in the wheel well). GMP has the best design staff and bank of consultants, though. Well worth the price!
Sorry to rehash this one but I'm new here... I think Auto Art has the best quality for the price. For $60 - $90 you get really high detail and quality construction. GMP has the highest quality overall but they are priced high too. I just wish they could be more accurate for the money they are charging. The Fox Body Mustangs they first came out with were really inaccurate with the wrong fuel injection's on certain years, the wrong seats and steering wheels on others....things like that. The later cars like the Cobra's and convertibles seem to be much better. They even got the angle of the front of the hood corrected which is horrendous on the '87 LX and the NYS Trooper car. I know most of the manufacturers are a little off here and there though and they are still worth the price. The worst goof I have seen to date was the short run Indy pace 1980 Trans Am that Sunstar released...It has a shaker scoop and a 4-speed...neither of which were ever offered on a Turbo Trans Am. Probably why it was a short run!
Yeah, those Sun Star pace cars were junk. I still see sellers that have some of those for $9.99. They just won't sell.
There's been a lot of poorly executed diecast, and most of the worst are dome IMO by the companies that have little or no presence in the US. Sun Star even used warped promos as reference for their mid-50s Olds and Buicks. Some of the Chinese manufacturers are still on the steep side of the learning curve, but some others are really stepping up and performing miracles... look at the West Coast Chevies and/or any of the recent Danbury releases... Pricey, yes, but worthwhile just the same.
