Just got the Ertl Elite 1/18 1971 Chevy Monte Carlo SS in copper. I like the original color and GM Rallye wheels but as usual, feel that the cost is not justified by simple placing 'Elite Edition' on the box. As you can see from the picture, the door gap in front is waaaaaaaay too wide and the hood is off center, not to mention far from perfect paint. This is a run-of-the-mill Ertl diecast that cost way too much. In the late 90s this model would have gone for half the price! Will look good with my silver Monte Carlo though...
That looks really nice

I'd like to find me a '68-'69 Camaro SS some day

What is it with the "Elite" series, anyway? They tried to do a little extra (so they could charge more?) I guess, but like the Monte - doesn't always come out that great. I have a couple of the Elite Z28s. The silver one with the below-average black vinyl top and "interesting" rally wheels, and an orange one with better white vinyl roof and torque thrust wheels. Not that impressed with either.
I had a real 1970 SS 454 Monte, by the way! Back in 1978.
You got it - "Elite" translates to "overpriced." No kidding - this model is *exactly* like the $25 '70 M/C I have. Except for the big gaps in the hood and doors. I don't see Ertl hanging around much longer. I just wish they'd sell off all their molds to someone who can get it right. Extremely disappointing...
Bet you wish you still had the Monte Carlo eh? How many guys know the feeling...
